Covid-19 has created havoc worldwide taking lives and unfortunately will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. Our NHS staff and support workers have been marvellous - putting their lives at risk every day to care for others.
Whilst the Government has eased lock-down restrictions a little this week, and encouraged some sectors back to work, it is going to be a long time before we get back to anything near ‘normal.’ Online shopping has proved to be invaluable since the start of the virus, but when we are allowed more freedom, and the virus has been contained, it is going to be vital to give as much support as possible to local independent shops trying to get back on their feet. Therefore, I will be trying to avoid shopping online with retailers such as Amazon, especially as they are not paying anything like the tax revenues that they morally should.
Given the vast sums of money that the Government has ploughed into the economy to support businesses and help protect jobs, the economic consequences are going to be severe. We have seen an incredible community spirit rising up as consequence of Covid-19, let’s keep this going moving forward and, when we can return to normal shopping habits, be prepared to pay a little more to protect the livelihoods of the independents. When they’ve gone – I fear there will be no turning back!
